Improvement, Restoration and Conservation of Lee Memorial Park
Willcox Watershed Conservancy

The Willcox Watershed Conservancy, established in 2007, is a non-profit organization whose mission is the improvement and restoration of Lee Memorial Park in Petersburg, Virginia.

Within its boundaries, Lee Park contains a variety of geological, historical, botanical, and recreational sites which makes it unique.

Nowhere else can you find tennis courts and baseball fields surrounded by a 330 million year old granite formation, a 4.5 million year old marine deposit filled with fossils, a series of Confederate Civil War earthworks, a wildflower and bird sanctuary, a landscape created by women carrying out a Depression Era WPA project, and a man-made lake, Willcox Lake, that prompted one of the country’s early Civil Rights cases.

It is this extraordinary historical heritage and the rare natural habitat found in Lee Memorial Park in Petersburg, Virginia that the Willcox Watershed Conservancy seeks to preserve.
